Slated roofs are one of the most durable systems available in the UK, but the choice between natural stone and man-made fibre-cement boards affects structural requirements, budget, planning constraints and long-term maintenance significantly. Lifespan
Natural slate, properly laid on adequate timber, routinely outlasts the building beneath it. Failure modes are almost always the nails or fixings, not the slate itself.
